Search Engine Tips

Search engines can do much more than just search. Below are examples functionality of the Google and Bing Search Engines.

Calculations

If you need to solve a math problem quickly, just navigate to one of the search engines, type in your math problem, and press the enter key. The search engine will return the answer and provide an onscreen calculator.

Google also provides additional calculation functions.

Area of a Circle

In order to get the area of a circle, type area of a circle in the search box, press the enter key, and Google will display an interface for calcualting the solution. You simply type in the radius, press the enter key, and the area will be displayed at the top of the interface. This interface will also allow you to solve for the radius, diameter, and circumference.

Area of a Triangle

Type area of a triangle, press the enter key, and Google will display an interface for calcualting the solution. Enter the values for base and height, press the enter key, and the area will be displayed at the top of the interface. You can also solve for base, height, side (a), side (c), gamma, and perimeter.

Conversion

Search engines can also be used for converting values. The example below uses Bing to convert 100 kilometers into miles. You type the value, km to mi and press the enter key. An interface will be displayed to use for further conversions.

Current Time

You can also use a search to return the current time from anywhere in the world. The example below used Bing to display the current time in Sydney, Australia.

Weather

To get the weather conditions and forecast for a location, simply type the word weather in the search box, the name of the location, and press the enter key.

Stock Quotes

To get the latest stock quote of a company, just type in the stock symbol for the company and press the enter key.

Google Video Games

Google also allows you to play video games through its search engine.

Solitaire

If you would like to play solitaire, navigate to Google, type solitaire, and press the enter key. After the screen below is displayed, click the Play button.

After the game is loaded, you use the mouse to play game.

Pac-Man

If you would like to play Google’s version of Pac-Man, navigate to Google, type pacman, and click the play button below.

After the screen below is displayed, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to play the game.

Snake

If you would like to play Google’s version of Snake, navigate to Google, type snake, and click the play button below.

When the screen below is displayed, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to play the game.
